PROBLEMS FACING THE MAGAZINE INDUSTRY

Sales of MOST magazines have been in a steady decline over the last 10 years, and some magazines have suffered such serious drops in readership that they have had to close down and cease publishing all together.

Here are some figures showing the average MONTHLY circulation of the top 23 men’s and women’s magazines, as well as how much in percent this is above or below their circulation from this time last year.

  1. Glamour = 489,461 monthly readers + 1.7%
  2. Good Housekeeping = 414,358 monthly readers + 1.9%
  3. Woman & Home = 352,190 monthly readers + 0.1%
  4. Cosmopolitan = 324,753 monthly readers - 3.9%
  5. Heat = 312,063 monthly readers - 21.8%
  6. Woman's Weekly = 308,878 monthly readers + 0.6%
  7. Woman = 282,333 monthly readers - 9.9%
  8. Best = 276,424 monthly readers - 7.0%
  9. Prima = 275,954 monthly readers - 2.2%
  10. Woman's Own = 241,100 monthly readers - 9.9%
  11. Bella = 237,840 monthly readers - 2.8%
  12. Marie Claire = 215,407 monthly readers - 9.0%
  13. Red = 213,079 monthly readers - 0.9%
  14. Grazia = 206,764 monthly readers - 3.9%
  15. Men's Health = 182,557 monthly readers - 9.9%
  16. Company = 176,357 monthly readers - 16.8%
  17. Vogue = 149,888 monthly readers - 2.3%
  18. Elle (U.K.) = 147,770 monthly readers + 0.2%
  19. FHM = 117,908 monthly readers - 24.1%
  20. Nuts = 107,532 monthly readers - 23.9%
  21. Zest = 83,490 monthly readers - 15.0%
  22. GQ = 76,049 monthyl readers - 6.7%
  23. Bliss = 70,216 monthly readers - 13.6%

As you can see, all the magazines highlighted in red have had their sales DROP in comparison to last year.
